Hotel Rada, Chianti

Unpack for seven nights and enjoy this boutique style hotel located in the Medieval Village of Radda in the famous wine region of
Chianti, Tuscany. Set atop a hill, the hotel offers spectacular views of the surrounding rolling hills. The hotel features 59 beautifully appointed modern rooms with red terracotta floors and contemporary furniture. The property also has a spa/wellness center and outdoor swimming pool. The De Gustibus Restaurant is typical of the Tuscan region with a unique chef’s touch who prepares Tuscan and Italian dishes, served in a dining room with views of the Chianti countryside. The wine list features both local and regional wines. Guests will kick start each day with the extensive breakfast buffet serves, fresh home-made products, such as breads, pastries, jams, eggs, cold cuts, cheeses and fruits. The hotel is the perfect place to unpack once, and be your home base “staycation” as you explore all that Tuscany offers.

DAY 1: DEPART USA

Board our overnight flight to Europe.

 

DAY 2: ARRIVAL FLORENCE ITALY – CHIANTI

Arrive in Florence, meet our Tour Directorand transfer to our Tuscan Hotel in the Chianti Region for a seven night stay. This evening enjoy a Welcome Dinner of Tuscan favorites and locally produced wine with your fellow travelers.

DAY 3: TRUFFLE HUNT EXPERIENCE & FLORENCE SIGHTSEEING

After breakfast travel through the surrounding hilly landscape, dotted with olive groves, cypresses, vineyards and palaces. Arrive at a lovely Tuscan estate, where you will be greeted with a welcome drink. Next enjoy a truffle hunt with access to a protected area on the property. Following this experience, a delicious tasting is waiting. Enjoy delicious

oil and truffle butter bruschetta, salami, pecorino and wines from the estate. Later this afternoon, we travel to Florence where a local expert guide awaits you for a walking tour of Florence featuring a visit to the Academy Gallery to see Michelangelo’s original Statue of David, a truly awesome sight. See the Cathedral to see Giotto’s Belltower and Baptistry with its impressive ‘Gates of Paradise’. These buildings demonstrate the traditions of Florentine art and architecture from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Also see the open-air museum of Piazza Della Signoria & Santa Croce, which houses the tombs of Michelangelo and Galileo. The insightful walking tour also features a stroll

across the famous Ponte Vecchio Bridge lined with shops. Dinner is included tonight at a local restaurant in Florence. Return to your hotel later this evening in Chianti.

DAY 4: ORGANIC COOKING CLASS & WINE TOUR & TASTING

This morning enjoy an Organic Cooking & Pasta Making Class and lunch at Castell di Vicchiomaggi, located at the top of a hill overlooking the valley of Greve in Chianti. You will be greeted with a welcome drink, while the chef will present the program of the day and his recipes. He will then divide the group into small groups that will alternate during the cooking course. The restaurant staff will then assist you to put on your chef aprons and hats and let the cooking fun begin! At the end you will get to taste what you have prepared. Later this afternoon continue to Volpaia Castle for a Wine Tour & Tasting consisting of Vin Santo (holy wine) and Cantucci (local biscuit). Dinner included at your villa this evening.

DAY 5: VAL D’ORCIA WITH PIENZA MONTALCINO & SIENA

Travel to Pienza, a lovely medieval town overlooking the Tuscany hills. Here we will stop at a local cheese producer for a delicious typical Pecorino Cheese tasting. The tour continues to a traditional farmhouse in Montalcino, where you will enjoy a multisensory experience of music and wine! Four wines will be matched with four music tracks selected by a local Sommelier. You will have time for lunch on your own in Montalcino before continuing onto Siena, where a local guide awaits you for a walking tour in the Old Town. The highlight is the Piazza del Campo, the seashellshaped square on which the famous horse-race, the Palio, takes place each year. Just outside Siena, we will reach a farmhouse for a visit and an opportunity to meet the owner. Enjoy dinner at the farmhouse featuring typical Tuscany dishes paired with their local wines.

DAY 6: SAN GIMIGNANO AND VOLTERRA

Today we travel to San Gimignano, the epitome of a Tuscan hill town, where nobles built more splendid towers to outdo one another and indulge in their need for status. The medieval structures of this city have largely remained intact and San Gimignano, with its large number of art treasures, can truly be characterized as an open-air museum. Enjoy a delicious gelato ice cream in one of the oldest gelateria in Italy that produces unique flavors of gelato which are famous world-wide. Taste the saffron & pine nuts flavored gelato, a registered trademark. Continue to Volterra, the ancient and beautiful hilltop Italian city. Enjoy free time in Volterra and lunch at a family-run farmhouse that specializes in saffron production. Dinner is included at your hotel this evening.

DAY 7: DAY AT LEISURE IN CHIANTI OR OPTIONAL EXCURSION

Today is at leisure to relax at the hotel, enjoy the spa or explore on your own. An optional tour will be available today.

DAY 8: LAKE TRASIMENO BOAT

EXCURSION AND LUNCH ON THE ISLAND MAGGIORE

Begin your morning with a hearty breakfast for your journey to Lake Trasimeno. The

heart-shaped Lake Trasimeno is surrounded by rolling hills scattered with villages and vineyards. The sizeable lake has three islands. Lake Trasimeno earned fame in 217 BC when Hannibal beat the Roman consul Caius Flaminus there. Free time to explore and walk around the medieval town of Tuoro, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Next enjoy a boat cruise to the Island Maggiore, where we will have lunch at a traditional restaurant located directly on the lake. Tonight a special Farewell Dinner is planned.

DAY 9: CHIANTI - FLORENCE - HOME

Today transfer to Florence for your flight home with wonderful memories of your Culinary Journey Through Tuscany.
