Iceland and the Northern Lights
Dec 27, 2021 - Jan 2, 2022

We've had a number of requests for Iceland, so here goes! Let's escape as a club (club members only) after we've finished unwrapping all those Christmas presents. We'll be back in time to go back to work on Monday the 3rd. This is not an organized tour, but we will have organized activities that you can participate in each day.

NOTE: There are some things to consider about traveling to Iceland this time of year. First, we'll only have about 4 to 5 hours of daylight each day. Also, the average high temperature is about 40 degrees. That's certainly coat weather. The positive is that you should be able to see the Northern Lights from around 4 in the afternoon until 9 in the morning this time of year. Iceland during December is easily the best place on earth to see this incredible sight.  While this time of year has more cloudy weather, we'll be able to also experience the holiday lights and other festivities of Reykjavik.

  • Round trip air from New York to Reykjavik, Iceland

    • 5 nights accommodations at the Center Hotels Plaza, near the Reykjavik harbor and within walking distance of everything this city has to offer.

  • Nighttime excursion for our group to see the Northern Lights in a remote setting, away from city lights.

  • Full day excursion to see Thingvellir National Park (the only place on earth where you can see continental tectonic plates smash together) the Golden Circle, and

$1,975 per person double occupancy ($550 single supplement) includes air, lodging, and excursions as noted. All food and optional excursions are extra.

We'll eat all meals together, and will do our daily/nightly tours as a group. However you're welcome to take a day and explore on your own. All meals are extra, but prices are reasonable. Plan on $5 to $15 for lunch, and $25 tops for dinner. Depending on how many travelers we have, we may opt for an AirBnB.

Itinerary (subject to change)

Day 1, Dec 27 - Board flight overnight from NY to Reykjavik

Day 2 - Arrive in Reykjavok

Day 3 - Golden Circle and the Blue Lagoon

Your first stop is at the Thingvellir National Park, the UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. This is where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, which allows you the unique feeling of having one foot in each world. Next destination is the famous Geysir Hot Spring. Watch Strokkur erupt every few minutes up to 30 meters high. Here you can buy a lunch during the stop. Gullfoss the Golden Waterfall is next and will amaze you with its beauty and raw power. Adding even more, you will visit the Kerid Volcanic Crater before heading off the Blue Lagoon for a relaxing end to a great day.

Reykjavik is the country's capital, with unique sights at every turn.

And of course, the main attraction is the Northern Lights. At this time of year, in Iceland, we should be able to see them almost every night (which is 16 hours long!)
